The connected transportation company is turning everyday commuting and business travel into measurable climate action through electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and smarter travel policies
Oakville, Ontario, 30 September 2026 – Sustainability is no longer limited to what happens inside a company's offices or factories. The way employees travel to work, attend meetings, and move between business locations can also contribute to an organization's environmental footprint. Geotab is addressing this part of corporate sustainability through its Sustainable Transportation Program, which has been recognized in the 2026 Sustainability Awards presented by the Business Intelligence Group.
Over the past 12 months, Geotab says its program helped avoid more than 285 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. The initiative focuses on reducing emissions linked to employee commuting and business travel while making cleaner transportation choices more accessible to its workforce.
The program brings together several practical measures. Eligible employees can receive a 25 percent subsidy toward electric vehicle purchases. Geotab also provides free electric vehicle charging at its Oakville and Waterloo offices through a network of 41 charging stations. These facilities give employees easier access to charging while also supporting the company's broader work with electric vehicle technology.
Public transportation and cycling are also part of the strategy. Geotab provides full reimbursement for eligible public transit and bike rental expenses. The company has also introduced a zero-emission vehicle fleet for business travel, giving employees an alternative to conventional vehicles when traveling for work.
Another element is Geotab's Sustainable Travel First policy. The policy gives preference to electric vehicles and train travel for business journeys where suitable options are available. Rather than relying on one solution, the program combines several forms of cleaner mobility to address different travel needs.
The financial commitment behind these efforts is also substantial. Geotab reports that it has invested more than 2.3 million dollars in electric vehicle incentives and subsidies for sustainable commuting alternatives since the program began. The company says these initiatives are intended to reduce emissions associated with employee mobility while supporting progress toward its broader net zero goals.
The recognition also highlights the growing importance of measurable results in corporate sustainability. Geotab's program focuses on specific actions and tracks their environmental impact instead of treating sustainability as a broad statement of intent. The company's 2025 Sustainability and Impact Report also describes the program as part of its effort to address Scope 3 emissions connected with employee commuting and business travel.
For Geotab, transportation sustainability also connects closely with its expertise in data and connected vehicle technology. The company uses telematics and artificial intelligence to help organizations understand vehicle use, improve efficiency, support electrification, and reduce emissions.
The Sustainable Transportation Program shows how corporate climate action can begin with everyday decisions. Electric vehicles, charging stations, public transportation, cycling, and smarter business travel policies can each contribute to a lower-carbon transportation model.
As businesses continue looking for practical ways to reduce their environmental impact, Geotab's approach demonstrates the value of combining employee support, infrastructure, technology, and measurable outcomes. The result is a sustainability strategy that reaches beyond company facilities and into the journeys employees make every day.
