A new export financing initiative highlights Indonesia’s growing role in the global railway manufacturing industry while supporting international infrastructure development
Jakarta, Indonesia, 5 August 2026 – Indonesia is strengthening its position in the global rail manufacturing sector through a major export financing initiative that will support the delivery of railway coaches to New Zealand. The funding demonstrates the country’s commitment to expanding its export capabilities while helping domestic manufacturers compete in international markets.
Indonesia Eximbank has approved financing worth US$85 million to support state owned railway manufacturer PT Industri Kereta Api, widely known as INKA, in exporting railway coaches to New Zealand. The financing is expected to improve Indonesia’s export performance while creating new opportunities for the country’s transportation manufacturing industry.
The project reflects the increasing global demand for modern and reliable rail transportation as countries continue investing in sustainable public transport systems. Railways are becoming an important part of national infrastructure plans because they help reduce traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and support environmentally friendly transportation. As a result, manufacturers with strong engineering capabilities are finding new opportunities in international markets.
Export financing plays a critical role in helping manufacturers secure large international contracts. By providing financial support, export credit agencies enable companies to manage production costs, strengthen competitiveness, and meet the financial requirements of overseas buyers. These financing programs also encourage industrial growth by supporting domestic production and creating long-term business opportunities.
For Indonesia, the agreement represents another step toward expanding its presence in the global transportation industry. The country’s railway manufacturing sector has steadily improved its engineering expertise and production capabilities, allowing locally produced rail vehicles to compete in international markets. Successful export projects also help strengthen Indonesia’s reputation as a reliable supplier of transportation equipment.
Industry experts believe that investments in rail infrastructure will continue to increase as governments focus on efficient, low-emission transportation networks. This growing demand is expected to create new opportunities for manufacturers that can deliver high-quality products while maintaining competitive pricing and reliable delivery schedules.
Continued collaboration between financial institutions, manufacturers, and international buyers is expected to support further export growth. As global demand for sustainable transportation expands, strategic financing initiatives such as this will help strengthen industrial development, increase export competitiveness, and open new markets for advanced railway manufacturing.
