TrimbleⓇ and Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) have officially come together to announce the integration of Trimble Road Call, a vehicle breakdown module within the Trimble TMT Fleet Maintenance™ solution, with the latter’s Freightliner Service Tracker.
According to certain reports, the stated integration arrives bearing the means to simplify increasingly complex repair processes surrounding commercial fleets.
To understand the significance of such a development, we must take into account how; going by the industry averages, 2.5% to 5% of a single fleet is in the shop for repairs on a given day. In case that wasn’t enough, repair and maintenance costs have also gone up by 3.1% in the last year, whereas on the other hand, parts and labor saw a similar uptick.
As original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and service providers introduce multiple software solutions to the market, maintenance managers now face numerous options when it comes to facilitating vehicle repairs.
Having to navigate different systems with various login credentials has also shown to create duplicate workflows and inefficiencies. This means single repair can take 3 to 5 days to complete. The whole process can also further prolonged if communications aren’t digital.
In response, by a single user interface, which connects maintenance tools from various service providers and OEMs, Trimble Road Call integration with Service Tracker addresses this very bottleneck.
“Together, Trimble and DTNA are simplifying maintenance and creating stronger connections between fleets and OEMs, ensuring that vehicles spend more time on the road and less time in the shop,” said Brian Mulshine, senior director of product management at Trimble. “By strengthening these connections, we’re not just reducing downtime — we’re paving the way for a more efficient and resilient trucking industry.”
Talk about the whole value proposition on a slightly deeper level, we begin from the promise of synchronized equipment and repairs. In simple terms, upon getting activated or disabled in TMT Fleet Maintenance, asset lists are instantly synchronized with Service Tracker.
Once that bit is done, both fleet maintenance managers and Daimler technicians can then input repair information into the system to allow for the synchronization of repair orders, appointment requests, and order retrieval.
Next up, there is a prospect attached to accessing regular status updates. This translates to how repair process is continuously monitored and status updates are communicated directly to the fleet. These updates include issuing notifications when maintenance work begins, estimates for completion, vehicle ready alerts, and confirmation when the truck has been picked up by the driver.
Another detail worth a mention here is rooted in Trimble’s bid to provide instant visibility. While fleet managers have instant visibility of all repair orders including those that originate outside of TMT Fleet Maintenance, Dealer technicians have the facility to input repair order details right into the system, if a disabled vehicle shows up unannounced for repairs.
Hence, assuming the given situation arises, relevant information is pulled into TMT Fleet Maintenance and a repair order is automatically generated.
Among other things, we ought to mention that Trimble Road Call with Freightliner Service Tracker is available for Daimler customers enrolled in Service Tracker using Trimble TMT Fleet Maintenance version 2023.2.3.817, or higher. It is also available all Trimble TMT Fleet Maintenance customers using this TMT version.
Furthermore, built on Trimble Transportation Cloud (TTC), Trimble Road Call with Freightliner Service Tracker supports both on-premise and SaaS customers. However, apart from Service Tracker, the integration is even available for other third-party maintenance solutions.
“By collaborating with DTNA, Trimble is not just streamlining maintenance and repair information for DTNA’s TMT-based customers, but they are redefining how they operate,” said Paul Romanaggi, chief CX officer and GM of service and warranty at Daimler Truck North America. “Connecting Trimble’s TMT Fleet Maintenance with our Service Tracker product not only simplifies how we communicate about repairs — it allows us to maximize uptime and ensure our fleets run smoothly, benefiting drivers and customers alike.”
